Importance of seed treatment in crops

  • Seed treatment prevents seed borne and soil borne diseases.

  • 70 to 80 percent of the farmers of the crops in the country do not change the seeds and use only the old seeds. Due to this, the risk of pest and disease is high, resulting in increased cost. Whereas seed borne and soil borne diseases are prevented by seed treatment. Only seed treatment can increase production by 6 to 10 percent.

  • Apart from good germination with seed treatment, the growth of plants is also good.

Measures for identification and prevention of downy mildew disease in pumpkin category crops

Introduction of the disease –  downy mildew is a serious problem of Cucurbit Crops like watermelon, melon, cucumber, pumpkin, Ridge gourd etc. Which is caused by a fungus called Pseudoperonospora cubensis. Once infested, the disease spreads rapidly, adversely affecting fruit quality and production.

Symptoms of the disease – Symptoms of the disease first appear as small yellow spots or water-soaked lesions on older leaves. A white downy mildew coating appears on the lower surface of the leaf. Due to the high humidity in the environment for a long time, the spread of the disease is rapid.

Disease control – Biological control – Spraying of Pseudomonas fluorescens @ 500 gm per acre can be done.

Chemical control – Spray Azoxystrobin 11% + Tebuconazole 18.3% SC @ 300 ml or Metalaxyl 8% + Mancozeb 64% @ 500 g/acre.

Kuchinda chilli fame will increase after getting GI tag, know its importance

Diversified farming is being promoted with the aim of increasing the income of the farmers. Due to this, the government is encouraging farmers to take up the cultivation of vegetables and fruits in addition to traditional farming. In this episode, good news has come out for the farmers cultivating Kuchinda chilli in Odissa.

The Samples of Kuchinda chilli were sent to a laboratory in Kochi for testing on behalf of the Rural Development and Marketing Society. Which has got very good results. In such a situation, the discussion of giving GI tag to this regional chilli of Orissa is in full swing.

What is GI Tag?

GI tag is given to a product that meets all the standards of quality. Along with this, this tag is given to link that particular product to its origin area. That is to say, GI tag tells where the particular product is manufactured.

Importance of GI Tag

Such a product is easily available in the market for sale not only in the whole country but also abroad. GI tag products get legal protection. Due to which people doing business of these products get more profit.

In this sequence, now the income of the farmer brothers cultivating Kuchinda chilli will increase. For a long time, Kuchinda was not able to get her special identity. However, as soon as the GI tag is applied, the demand will increase in the country as well as in the international markets.

Weed control measures in soybean crop

  • Pre-emergence (after sowing and before seed germination) Spray weedicide within 3-5 days of sowing with Imazethapyr 2% + Pendimethalin 30% EC (Wilforce – 32) @ 1 ltr/acre at 200 ltr water. And use a flat fan nozzle. There is an effective control of weeds with broad and narrow leaves.

  • Spraying of Diclosulam: 84%WDG (Mark/Strongarm) @ 12.4 gm/acre at the rate of 200 ltr of water within 3-5 days of sowing. And use a flat fan nozzle.

Advantages of soybean weed control

Eliminating soybean weeds can increase production by about 25 to 70 percent.

Out of the available nutrients in the soil, 30 to 60 kg of nitrogen, 8-10 kg of phosphorus and 40-100 kg of potash per hectare increase.

Apart from this, the growth of crops is faster and the level of production increases.

And the outbreak of germs of insects and diseases is less.

Mulching Method and its Benefits

To protect the crop planted in the field, a layer of grass or plastic is spread around the plant. There are two types of mulch, organic and plastic mulch.

  • Plastic mulching method: – When in the field, the land of planted plants is well covered by plastic sheets from all sides, then this method is called plastic mulching. In this way the plants are protected and crop production also increases. Let us tell you that this sheet is available in many types and many colors.

  • Organic Mulching Method: – In organic mulching, straw, leaves, etc. are used. It is also called natural mulching. It is very affordable. It is often used in zero budget farming as well. Do not burn the stubble but use it in mulching. By the use of mulching, you will get rid of the problem of stubble and the yield will also be higher.

Benefits: Helps in soil moisture conservation and temperature control, reducing soil erosion by wind and water, providing a favorable environment for plant growth, improving productivity, improving soil fertility and health, and preventing the growth of weeds.
