There is a possibility of an increase in rainfall activities in Central India and South India during this period. Till then the temperatures will increase but from May 5 the temperatures may once again drop slightly.

Downy mildew is a fungal disease that affects a lot of cucumber plants., which can affect the plant at all stages. Due to this disease spots appear on the interveinal surface of the leaves of the plant. and the leaves turn yellow and fall. Plants affected by downy mildew do not grow properly and plants do not bear good fruits.

Control: Downy mildew can be controlled by spraying M-45 (Mancozeb 75% WP) at 400 gm/Acre or Jatayu Chlorothalonil 75% WP at 400 gm/acre mixed in 200 litres of water twice at 10-day intervals.

Water-soaked black spots develop on leaves and stems. The lesions spread rapidly and the entire leaf dries up. These spots start forming on the edge of the leaves and slowly spots also appear on the stem and fruits, dark brown lesions are formed on the fruits. Due to frequent changes in the weather, and excessive moisture in the fields, this disease spreads rapidly.

Control: If infestation is observed apply Blue Copper (Copper Oxychloride 50% WP) 300 gm/Acre or Novacrust (Azoxystrobin 11% + Tebuconazole 18.3% SC) 300 ml/Acre or Taqat (Captan 70%+ Hexaconazole 5% WP) 370 g/Acre, Mix in 200 liters of water and spray.

Subsidy up to Rs 10 lakh available on mushroom cultivation

Most of the farmers cultivate traditional crops like wheat, paddy, pulses etc. but many times farmers earn good income by cultivating non-traditional crops also. Mushroom farming is also one such unconventional farming which can earn huge income for the farmers.

It is noteworthy that the government is also providing various types of financial assistance to the farmers for mushroom cultivation. In this series, the government of Bihar is going to give a good subsidy to the farmers of its state for mushroom cultivation. This subsidy being given by the government will be up to about 50%. With the help of this subsidy, the government is trying to increase the production of mushrooms in the state as well as increase the income of the farmers.

This subsidy that farmers are going to get on mushroom cultivation is actually being provided under the Integrated Horticulture Mission Scheme of the government. Under this scheme, the cost of starting a mushroom production unit has been fixed at around Rs 20 lakh. 50% of this amount i.e. half of the total expenditure, subsidy up to Rs 10 lakh will be given by the government. To avail of the benefits of the scheme, interested farmers can apply online on the official website of Bihar Horticulture Mission, horticulture.bihar.gov.in.
