Problem and solution of Purple blotch disease in Onion

  • The disease begins at the edges of old leaves. Initially, small, oval spots which later become purple-brown and the edges of these spots are yellow.
  • When the spots start to grow, then the yellow edges spread upwards and form wounds on the bottom.
  • The stems of leaves and flowers wither and the plant dries up.
  • 2-3-years crop cycle should be adopted with other non-tuber crops.
  • To prevent this disease, spraying Kitazin 48 EC 80 ml or Chlorothalonil 75 WP 300 g or Carbendazim 12 + Mancozeb 63 WP 500 g @ 200 ml/acre with 200 liters of water is sprayed.

Madhya Pradesh government made a roadmap for wheat procurement amid lockdown

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has given a big relief by clearing the doubt about wheat sale among farmers amid the ongoing lockdown on the Corona global epidemic. Under this, the procurement of wheat at the minimum support price in the state will start from April 15. During this time social distance will also be taken care of, and every day only selected farmers will be called through SMS.

Significantly, last year there were 3545 procurement centers in the state, which has been increased to 3813 this time and other new centers are also being built. This time the total number of procurement centers will be up to 4000.

On this whole issue, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has said that the lockdown is expected to open in the state on April 14. After this, Rabi procurement work will be started in the state from April 15. He said that the procurement work has to be finished by 31 May. Time is short. Therefore, making such a system, so that wheat, gram, mustard and lentil crops of farmers can be easily purchased at the support price.

How to seed treatment with Rhizobium culture

  • Add 250 grams of jaggery to 1 liter of water and heat it for about 15 minutes and make a solution.
  • When the solution cool, add 3 packets (600 grams) of Rhizobium culture to it and stir gently with a wooden stick.
  • This solution should be sprinkled slowly on the seeds in such a way that the layer of solution sticks to all the seeds equally. It is enough for 10 kg of seeds.
  • Wear the gloves in hands and mix the seeds well and dry them in a shady place. Make sure that the seeds do not stick together.
  • Sowing the treated seeds soon.

Whitefly resistant transgenic variety of cotton developed

  • Scientists of National Botanical Research Institute – Lucknow have developed whitefly resistant variety of Cotton. 
  • Researchers identified 250 plants from the plant’s biodiversity to find protein molecules that are toxic to the whitefly.
  • When the whitefly was exposed to the pesticide protein in the laboratory, its life cycle changed adversely.
  • This variety will be tested from April to October in the center under Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.
  • If the anti-white fly qualities are included in cotton, if they are found effective even in tests conducted in the field, then this variety can be given to farmers for cultivation.

Big relief in lockdown: Government will buy rabi crops from farmers’ home

Farmers are facing a range of difficulties due to the ongoing nationwide lockdown due to the Corona crisis. Actually the present time is of harvesting of Rabi crops and government procurement, but during the lockdown on this issue, the government has taken the initiative to give a big relief to the farmers.

To tackle this problem, the Punjab government has taken an important decision. The Punjab government is preparing to go to the villages to purchase crops to prevent congestion in the mandis during the procurement of rabi crops. During this time, priority will be given to those villages which are located at a distance of about 1 to 2 km from the mandis.

Officers of Agriculture and Food Departments have been instructed by the Punjab Government to soon find a way to go to the farmers of the villages and buy wheat. It has been suggested to send workers to farmers’ homes to help the farmers of the villages located away from the mandis.

Purchase of wheat on support price postponed

  • Already, purchases on Minimum Support Price in Rajasthan have been postponed indefinitely. Now the Madhya Pradesh government has also decided to postpone the purchase of wheat at the MSP.
  • Earlier, under normal circumstances, the purchase of wheat at MSP by the Government of Madhya Pradesh was to be done from April 1, 2020. For this, farmers have already registered with e-procurement.
  • But now the state government has postponed the wheat procurement work being started from April 1, 2020, keeping in view the situation of Coronavirus till further orders.

How to make silage

  • To make grain crops such as maize, sorghum, bajra, oats, etc., when crops having milking stage, cut it into small pieces 2-5 cm.
  • The pieces of chopped green fodder should be spread on the ground for a few hours so that some amount of excess water will blow away.
  • Now put the chopped fodder in the pre-prepared silo pit or silage pits.
  • Fill all four in the pit by pressing it with feet or tractor, so that the air between the feed is removed.
  • Fill the cutting pieces in the pit by pressing it with feet or tractor, so that the air between the feed comes out.
  • After filling the pit completely, add thick polythene and seal it well.
  • After this, apply a layer of soil about one feet thick from the top of the polythene cover so that the air cannot enter.
  • It starts making silage from pieces of green fodder because in the silo pit there is no air and water, the fodder pressed creates lactic acid, which does not spoil the feed for a long time. 
  • Open the pits to feed the animals after at least 45 days as required by the feed.
