Waterlogging refers to a condition when water is present in the field in excess of its optimum requirement. Excess water in the field causes the following losses :-
Due to excessive water logging in soybean crops, there is a hindrance in air circulation and a fall in soil temperature, as well as the activity of beneficial bacteria decreases, and the nitrogen fixation process is not done properly, due to which the roots of the plants are completely destroyed. Air, water, nutrients and free space are not available in quantity. And due to excessive water logging, harmful salts get collected due to which the problem of root rot is seen.
Drainage is necessary to reduce water logging in the field. It is a crop that can neither tolerate drought nor can tolerate excessive water. Therefore, for drainage, a drain should be prepared at the time of sowing and in case of waterlogging in the field, make additional drainage drains and take the water out from the field.
