Control of damping off in tomato

Fungus attack usually starts on the germinating seed, spreading hypocotyls, basal stem and developing taproot.
Infected seedlings appear pale green with brownish water-soaked lesions at the basal portions of the stem.
Raise nursery beds at least 10 cm high.
Treat the seeds with carbendazim @ 2 gm/kg of seed.
To avoid mortality of seedlings due to damping off, drenching of the beds with Mancozeb 75% WP @ 400-600 gm/acre, is effective.

Diseases are more common in sandy soil.
Destroy infected plants and plant debris.
Use of disease-free seed.
Seed treatment with carbendazim @ 2 gm/kg seeds before sowing.
Use Propiconazole 25% EC @ 80-100 ml/acre when the disease appears on the watermelon plant.

In this disease, the seeds fail either to exit the soil or fall immediately after emergence.
Before the sowing of coriander, destroy the old crop residues and weeds through deep ploughing.
Use disease-free seed and resistance variety.
Treat the seed before sowing with carboxin 37.5% + thiram 37.5% @ 2 gm/kg seed.
drenching with thiophanate methyl 70% WP 300 gm/acre.

Angular spots appear on upper surface similar to water-soaked lesions.
Lesions appear first on the older leaves and progressively on the younger leaves.
As the lesions expand, they may remain yellow or become dry and brown.
Affected vines do not set fruit properly.
Plucking and destroy of affected leaves.
Spray with Mancozeb 75% WP @ 350-400 gm/acre or Chlorothalonil 75% WP @ 200-250 gm/ acre.
Crop rotation and sanitation reduces the severity of the disease.

In this disease, there is an infection in all the parts except the root of the plant.
Early symptoms: Yellowness/greenness is seen on the edges of the leaves of the plant, and the surface filled with spots appear.
The wound is formed on the stem of the plant that is infected with this disease, from which the red-brown, black-colored gummy substance is released.
On the string, brown spots become black spots which later go to the wound.
In bottle gourd seeds have medium-brown, dark spots.

Management:-

Choose healthy seeds.
Inspect transplantation and uproot the infected plants and leave the farm out of the field.
On the appearance of illness, immediately spray chlorothalonil 75% WP @ 350gm / acre or tebuconazole 25.9% EC @ 200 ml / acre solution.

Yellow spots appear on leaves which turn brown and finally turn black on aging.
They usually start from margins and produce concentric rings.
Severely affected vines look like burnt charcoal.
Adopt clean cultivation and crop rotation cultural practices are adopted for prevention of disease.
Spray Mancozeb 75% WP @ 400 gram/acre or hexaconazole 5% SC @ 300 ml/acre at 10-15 days intervals.
Spray chlorothalonil 75% WP @ 300 gram/acre at 10 days intervals.

Dark brown water-soaked lesions and girdling at the base of stem occurs. Finally, the entire plant to rot and die.
Cottony white mycelium in the surface of the infected tissue occurs with advanced infections.
Affected plants can be easily uprooted but the lower part of the root usually remains in soil.
Treat the seed with Carbendazim 50% WP @ 2.5 gm/kg of seed before sowing.
Drench vine with Mancozeb 63% + Carbendazim 12% WP @ 400 gm/acre or thiophanate methyl 70% WP @ 300 gm/acre are recommended for control.
Previous crop residues should be buried deep.
