America’s black potato is earning lakhs to Indian farmers

America's black potato is earning lakhs to Indian farmers

Nowadays, many Indian farmers are earning a lot by cultivating foreign-grown crops instead of traditional crops. One such exotic crop is ‘Black Potato’ which fetches good market price due to its healthful properties and farmers can earn good profits. Recognizing these qualities of black potato, a farmer from Bihar cultivated it and now his first crop has arrived.

Ashish, a resident of Gulriachak village of Tikari block of Bihar state, sowed its seeds in his field on November 10 last year and after 120 days it was harvested on March 13. About 120 kg of potatoes has been obtained from the cultivation of 14 kg of black potato seeds.

Black potato is beneficial for health and that is why it is in great demand in the markets. Please tell that Ashish had got a demand for 200 kg of potato even before its cultivation, although the production was less than the demand. But Ashish seemed satisfied with it and is planning to cultivate black potatoes on a large scale next time.

Tell that Ashish had ordered black potato seeds from America at the rate of Rs.1500 per kg and he had cultivated it in about 1 kattha of land only. At the initial stage of the crop, he expected that 14 kg of seed would yield about 200 kg, but due to bad weather in the growing stage, the yield was slightly less than expected.
