Symptoms and control of loose smut in wheat crop

It is a seed-borne disease in wheat crops. The symptoms of this disease appear only after the Bali stage. Instead of grains, spores of the pathogen are found in the form of black powder in the ears of diseased plants and these spores are covered with a thin membrane. Affected plants usually mature earlier and have a shorter height.

Preventive measures for loose smut disease:

Seed treatment is the best way to control this disease. Remove infected spikes when leaves turn yellow. Apart from this, spray Carmanova (Carbendazim 12% +  Mancozeb 63%) @ 600 gm/acre or Tesu Nova (Tebuconazole 10% + Sulphur 65% WG) @ 500 gm per acre in 200 litres of water to control the disease.

Pashu Kisan Credit Card Scheme

Under the ‘Pashu Kisan Credit Card Scheme’ launched by the government to support farmers, loans can be availed for purchasing cows, buffaloes, goats, chickens, and more. This initiative aims to promote animal husbandry and increase farmers’ incomes.

In her recent budget speech, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced an increase in the loan limit under this scheme. Earlier, loans were capped at ₹3 lakh, but now farmers can avail of loans up to ₹5 lakh.

Key Details of the Pashu Kisan Credit Card Scheme:

  • Farmers can avail loans up to ₹2 lakh at an interest rate of 7%.

  • Timely repayment qualifies farmers for an additional 3% incentive.

  • For early repayment, the effective interest rate on loans up to ₹2 lakh is reduced to just 4% per annum.

How to Apply: To benefit from this scheme, visit your nearest bank branch and fill out the application form. Ensure you submit all the required documents. Once the process is complete, the bank issues the Pashu Kisan Credit Card within 15 days.

Powdery mildew disease symptoms are clearly visible on both the old leaves and stem of the plant. White-coloured powdery spots are formed on the leaves and stems of the affected plants. As the attack progresses, the leaves turn yellow and start falling off. The fruits of infested plants remain small in size, and the production is also very less due to this. The outbreak of the disease increases when there is more humidity in the environment.

Control: To control it, spray Bavistin (Carbendazim 50% WP) @ 200 grams per acre in 150 to 200 litres of water or Sulphur 80% WP @ 1.2 kg per acre in 300-400 litres of water.

The 19th Installment of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana to Be Released Soon

The 19th installment under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, aimed at improving the economic condition of farmers, is expected to be released soon. According to reports, the central government has announced that the 19th installment will be credited to farmers’ bank accounts by the end of February 2025.

As per media updates, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Bihar on February 24, 2025. During his visit, an agriculture-focused program will be organized, where it is anticipated that the funds for the 19th installment will be transferred to farmers’ bank accounts.

Under this special scheme of the central government, farmers receive an installment of ₹2,000 every four months, amounting to a total of ₹6,000 annually. The funds are directly transferred to farmers’ bank accounts.

To continue receiving the benefits of the PM Kisan Yojana, it is mandatory for farmers to complete their e-KYC. Those who have not yet completed this process should do so immediately by visiting the official website of PM Kisan Yojana: https://pmkisan.gov.in.
