Chilli crop will be damaged due to leaf curl disease, know the preventive measures

Chilli crop will be damaged due to leaf curl disease

Symptoms: Symptoms include curling of leaves upwards and downwards. Leaf edges turn light green to yellow, eventually spreading into the veins. Nodes and internodes become smaller in size. Infected plants appear bushy, with severely stunted growth, appear pale and produce more lateral branching. Fruits of infected plants become small.

Disease spread: The disease is spread through the white fly, a vector insect. The disease progresses with an increase in temperature and relative humidity. The virus mainly persists in weeds. Hot and dry weather favours the spread of the disease.

Control:
1. Preparation of nursery under nylon-net cover (50 mesh)
2. Remove infected plants and weeds from the field early
3. Two rows of border crops with maize, sorghum, or millet reduce disease spread

Chemical Control:- Fipnova (Fipronil 5% SC) @ 320-400 ml/acre.

Pink bollworm of cotton is dangerous, will ruin the crop

Pink bollworm of cotton is dangerous
  • Pink bollworm causes failure of buds to open, fruit shedding, lint damage and seed loss. Pink bollworm is a worldwide pest of cotton and in some regions of the world, it is the key cotton pest.

  • Pink bollworm eggs are deposited on or near the cotton bolls at the time of flowering.

  • Young larvae emerge after 3-5 days, entering the cotton bolls shortly after emergence where they feed internally within the pod, making a small hole in the exterior to allow air to penetrate.

  • Larvae usually pass through four instars. Pupation takes place in the ground, about 50 mm below the surface and adults emerge after about 9 days. Adults are nocturnal and females begin laying eggs a day or two after emergence, typically laying 200-400 eggs each.

  • Control:- Profenova Super (Cypermethrin 4% + Profenophos 40% EC) @400-600 Liter/Acre, Danitol (Fenpropathrin 10% EC) 300-400 Liter/Acre.
