Identification and control of downy mildew disease in onion crop

Identification of Downy mildew disease: It is a fungal disease, and its symptoms can be easily seen in the morning when there is dew on the leaves. Light yellow spots develop on the surface of the leaves and seed stalks, and as the spots enlarge, a greyish-purple fungus develops on the surface. Infected plants may be stunted, malformed and pale green in colour, plants usually do not die, but the quality of tubers is poor.

Control: For good tuber development and control of downy mildew spray Godiwa Super (Azoxystrobin 18.2% Difenoconazole 11.4% SC) @ 200 ml or WOKOVIT (Sulphur 80 % WDG) @ 125 gm in 150 to 200 litre of water.

In 2025, there is a possibility of Western Disturbances coming continuously. Good Western Disturbances will come by the end of January and it will continue in February as well. There will be intermittent snowfall in the mountains during the next three to four days. Minimum temperatures will now start increasing in Northwest and Central India and there will be some reduction in cold. Light rain will start in North India from January 22 and many states will see good rain on January 23 and 24. Rain may continue in Tamil Nadu, South Karnataka and Kerala.

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana

The central and state governments regularly introduce various schemes to support farmers. Among them is a special initiative by the Rajasthan government called the “Mukhyamantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.” This scheme aims to empower and make farmers in the state more self-reliant. As part of this initiative, the financial assistance provided to farmers has been increased from ₹6,000 to ₹8,000.

All farmers who are already beneficiaries of the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-Kisan) of the central government are eligible to benefit from this scheme. If you are a PM-Kisan beneficiary, no additional processes are required to avail this benefit, as the assistance amount will be directly credited to your bank account. For more information about this scheme, you can visit the official portal or contact your nearest Agriculture Department office.

Gummy stem blight symptoms and control in watermelon crop

Gummy stem blight is one of the serious foliar diseases in watermelon crops. In this disease, brown spots appear on the stems and leaves and these spots are surrounded by yellow tissues. After that, this lesion on the stem enlarges and forms a rotting which secretes a sticky, brown liquid. Fruit is rarely affected by this disease, but a loss of foliage can also affect yield and fruit quality.

Control: To avoid gummy stem blight, use disease-free seeds, as well as crop rotation of 2 years in all cucurbits crops. Also, on the appearance of disease symptoms, for chemical control, spray contact fungicide like Jatayu (Chlorothalonil 75% WP) @ 200 gm/acre or M45 (Mancozeb 75% WP) @ 600-800 gm/acre @ 150 to 200 litres of water.

This January has seen consistent snowfall in the mountains, and the trend continues. Over the next 24 hours, high-altitude regions will experience snowfall, with heavy snow predicted between January 22 and January 24. From January 22 onwards, the weather in North India will begin to shift, bringing rain to several districts in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan on January 23 and 24. Isolated hailstorms are also likely.

In South India, districts in Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, may see rain over the next two days. Southern Andhra Pradesh and Kerala are also expected to experience rainfall. Meanwhile, the weather in eastern and north-eastern India is expected to remain clear, while states like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha will continue to experience dry conditions.

  • Webs are visible on the mite-infested plant. This pest attacks the soft parts of the plant by sucking the sap and eventually killing the plant.

  • The following products are used for the management of mites in brinjal crops.

  • Spray Propargite 57% EC @ 400 ml or Spiromesifen 22.9% SC @ 200 ml or Abamectin 1.9 % EC @ 150 ml / acre.

  • As a biological treatment Use Metarhizium anisopliae @ 1 kg/acre as biological treatment.
