Wheat procurement will continue at MSP, government extended the last date

This year, farmers were getting good profits due to the increase in wheat exports, but because of food security and rising inflation in the country, the export of wheat has been banned. After which the farmers have lost hope of getting a better price for wheat.

The central government has taken necessary steps so that farmers can get good prices for wheat. The Center has extended the last date for procurement of wheat at the minimum support price. Under this, instructions have been given to continue the procurement of wheat in most of the states of the country till 31 May 2022. On the other hand, the last date has been fixed as June 15, 2022, in Madhya Pradesh and June 10, 2022, in Rajasthan.

This decision has been taken at the request of the State Governments and Union Territories so that farmers can get good profits without exporting wheat. This year the minimum support price for wheat has been fixed at Rs.2015. However, farmers are expected to benefit from the extension of the date of purchase of wheat at MSP.

Measures to control pod borer in Green gram crop

  • Pod borer is a major pest of the green gram crop which causes heavy damage to the crop.

  • Its caterpillar is dark in green colour, which later becomes dark brown, this insect damages the crop from the time of flowering till the harvest.

  • This insect makes a hole in the pod and makes the pod hollow by eating its grains inside.

  • To control this, spray Emamectin benzoate 5% SG [EmaNova] @ 100 gm or Flubendiamide 39.35% SC [Fame] @ 50 ml or Chlorantraniliprole 18.5% SC [Cosko] @ 60 ml/acre.

  • Spray Bavaria bassiana [Bave Curb]@ 250 gm/acre as biological treatment.

Control of white grub is necessary before sowing of cotton

  • White grubs as the name suggests are white coloured insects, that live as a grub in a field, whose dormancy period is in the winter.

  • They initially damage cotton plant roots. Symptoms of white grub include a complete withering of the plant or stunting of the plant resulting in the plant dying.

  • For control of this insect, in June and July, use Metarhizium culture [Kalichakra] and FYM [2 kg + 50-75 kg] per acre for control of white grub. 

  • But if an infestation of white grub is visible even in the immature stage of the cotton crop, then chemical treatment can also be done to control this pest.

  • Use Fenpropathrin 10% EC [Danitol] @ 500 ml / acre, Clothianidin 50.00% WG @ [Dantotsu] 100 gm / acre as soil mix.

Deficiency of sulphur in the fields and sources to remove it

  • Sulphur deficiency in the farms is a real problem, and should be rectified immediately. Therefore, by using sulphur-containing fertilizers, the deficiency of sulphur in the fields can be removed and maximum production can be taken from the crops.

  • Sulphur plays an important role in increasing the yield and quality of various crops.

  • It is also helpful in increasing oil content and protein percentage in oilseed crops.

  • To overcome sulphur deficiency, the selection of sulphur containing fertilizers depends on the crops, their varieties and easy availability.

  • The sources of sulphur as an essential element for crops and the percentage of sulphur in them are as follows –
