Along with agriculture, animal husbandry is also a good source of income for the farmers. Central and state governments are making many efforts at their respective levels to enable farmers to increase their income through animal husbandry. In this episode, to promote animal husbandry and milk production, the Madhya Pradesh government has started the Dairy Plus scheme. Through this scheme, two Murrah buffaloes are being provided to the farmers on subsidy.
Grant amount on two Murrah buffaloes
According to the government, the price of these two buffaloes has been fixed at Rs 2 lakh 50 thousand. Where under the scheme, farmers belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes will get 75% subsidy on the purchase of these buffaloes, according to this they will have to pay only Rs 62 thousand 500. At the same time, a 50% subsidy will be given to backward class and general category farmers, under which farmers of this class will have to pay one lakh 50 thousand rupees on the purchase of Murrah buffalo.
Characteristics of Murrah Buffaloes
Buffaloes of this breed are known for giving more milk. This buffalo can give up to 20 liters of milk per day, which is twice as much as other breeds of buffaloes. The weight of the buffalo of this breed is very high. This buffalo is mostly reared in areas like Haryana and Punjab.
The objective of this scheme is to increase the income of farmers manifold through animal husbandry. This scheme has been started by the state government in three districts of the state, Sehore, Vidisha, and Raisen.
