Farmer became a millionaire by cultivation of poppy seeds, earning 20 lakhs annually

Farming has always been challenging for farmers. Farmers often suffer losses due to changing weather. Sometimes the crop gets ruined due to flood or drought. Meghraj Prasad has become a source of inspiration for the farmers who are facing such difficulties.

Meghraj Prasad, a resident of Kararia village in Bihar state, has set an example by cultivating khus (poppy seeds). Meghraj told that he always wanted to do something different in the agriculture sector. To make his dream come true, he got information about medicinal plants from a friend from Himachal. Where he came to know about Khas (poppy seeds) from a friend.

For the purpose of cultivating khus (poppy seeds), he went to Lucknow’s CIMAP Research Center and took training. After the training, he bought 10 thousand poppy seeds worth 20 thousand rupees from the centre itself. Meghraj said that initially, he cultivated in only one bigha. Where he earned more than expected i.e. one lakh rupees. After this, he earned a bumper profit by cultivating 20 bighas. Now the situation is that Meghraj is earning 20 lakhs annually by cultivating khus (poppy seeds) on 20 acres of his land.

Meghraj explains that khus (poppy seeds) do not require much water. Apart from this, this crop is also not affected by excessive rainfall. This means to say that this crop flourishes in every odd situation. Along with this, there is no harm to this crop from animals. In such a situation, the farmers have no fear of flood, drought and animals for the cultivation of poppy seeds.

Let us tell you that khus (poppy seeds) are used especially in making perfume. Due to this, its demand in the market is very high. At the same time, aromatic oil is extracted from the root of its plant. Apart from this, khus (poppy seeds) are used in making soap, perfumed cosmetics etc. In such a situation, you can also earn lakhs of rupees at a low cost through the cultivation of poppy seeds.
