How to control mites in watermelon crop
  • Mites are small and red-colored insects that are found in large quantities on soft parts of watermelon crops such as leaves, flower buds, and twigs.

  • Webs are seen  on watermelon on which mites attacks 

  • This insect sucking the tender parts of the plant weakens them and in the end the plant dies.

  • Chemical management:- Propargite 57% Ec@ 400 ml/acre or Spiromesifen 22.9% SC @ 200 ml/acre  or Abamectin 1.9 % EC@ 150 ml/acre 

  • Biological treatment :- use Metarhizium Anisopliae @ 1 kg/acre

Control of Mites in Chilli:-

  • The tiny spider like insects are found large in numbers and the underside of leaves are covered with fine webs.
  • Nymphs and adults suck sap from leaves.Affected leaves curl downward along the margins of the leaf and attain an inverted boat shape.
  • Leaf petioles elongated and small leaves serrated and looks like bunchy.
  • Leaves turn into dark grey in colour, reduce leaf sheath and stops flowering.
  • In severe cases, fruit wall becomes hard and white strips appears on the fruit.

Control:-

  • Acaricides like Sulphur 80% WP@ 3 Gm per litre of water gives effective control of mites.
  • Twice spraying of Propargite 57% EC @ 400 ml/Acre in 7 days interval helps in controlling the pest in initial stage .
  • Collection and burning of severely infested plant parts reduces further multiplication of mites.
  • Proper irrigation and clean cultivation are essential to control the pest population.

  • Nymphs and adults suck cell sap and white patches appear on leaves.
  • Affected leaves become mottled, turn brown and fall.
  • Low relative humidity favours mite multiplication.
  • Mites are found in colonies covered by white-silky webs on lower surface of leaves.

Control:-

  • Acaricides like Sulphur 80% WP@ 3 Gm per litre of water gives effective control of mites.
  • Twice spraying of Propargite 57% EC @ 400 ml/Acre in 7 days interval helps in controlling the pest in initial stage .

Management of Red Spider Mites in Cucurbitaceae

Management of Red Spider Mites in Cucurbitaceae:-

Identification:-

  • The red spider mites are 1 mm. long and can be difficult to see by necked eyes.
  • Spider mites live in colonies on the under surface of leaves.
  • A single colony may contain hundreds of individuals.
  • Eggs are spherical and translucent, like tiny droplets, becoming cream colored before hatching.
  • Adults have eight legs and an oval shaped body with two red eyespots near the head end of the body.
  • Females usually have a large, dark blotch on each side of the body and numerous bristles covering the legs and body.
  • Newly hatched larvae have only six legs.

Nature of Damage:-

  • Larvae, nymphs and adults of mites lacerate leaves from under surface.
  • They suck the cell sap resulting in production of white patches between vien and leaves.

Control:-

  • Spray neem oil on under surface of the leaves in early morning before sunrise.
  • Spray propargite 57% EC @ 3 ml/ litre of water twice within 7 days.
