- Nematodes are like very thin threads. Their body is long cylindrical and the whole body is without segment.
- The nematode stays inside the soil and keeps a lump in the roots of the crop and damages the crop.
- Biological treatment is the best solution to control this pest.
- Soil treatment is the best way to control this pest.
- chemical treatment :- Soil treat with CARBOFURAN 3 % GR @ 10 kg / acre
- Biological treatment:- soil treat at the rate of 50-100 kg FYM @ PAECILOMYCES LINACEOUS (Nematofree) @ 1 kg/acre should be broadcast in an open field.
- Whenever this product is used, make sure that there is enough moisture in the field.
What is Nematode?
- Nematodes are like thin threads. Their body is long, cylindrical and the whole body is devoid of segments.
- It acts as a parasite for the crops, it either lives in soil or in plant tissues and damages the roots of the plant.
- Due to its infestation, the leaves turn yellow and the plant withers causing the fruits to not grow.
- The most important symptom of its infestation is that the roots of the plants clump together, not growing straight, and forming knots in the roots.
- Its infestation occurs on most of the crops.
- Biological treatment is the most effective way to control it.
Outbreak of nematode in Brinjal crop
- Due to nematodes in the soil, nodes are formed in the roots of brinjal plants.
- Due to its outbreak, the roots of the plants are not able to absorb nutrients. Due to this, there is a big decrease in the number of flowers and fruits.
- Leaves start to turn yellow and the entire plant remains dwarf.
- The plant dies after dying due to excess infection.
- Do not plant brinjal, chilli, and tomato crops for 2-3 years in the field where problems already appear.
- Do deep plowing in the affected field in summer.
- Apply marigold between 1-2 rows of brinjal crop.
- Mix 3% of Carbofuran @ 10 kg/ acre before planting.
- For biological control of nematodes, mix 200 kg Neem cake or 2 kg Verticillium chlamydosporium or 2 kg Paecilomyces lilacinus or 2 kg Trichoderma harzianum with 100 kg of good rotten dung and mix it at the rate of one acre per acre.
How to protect Crop from nematode
- Infested plants show symptoms of yellowing, growth of the plant is stunted and fruiting capacity adversely affected.
- The nematode attacks on the roots and produces tiny galls.
- The infested plants show symptoms of withering and wilting of leaves.
- It blocks the movement of nutrients and water in the plant system and subjected to wilt and finally leads to death.
- Carbofuran 3% G @ 8 kg/acre should be applied as a soil treatment.
- Neem cake at the rate of 80 Kg/acre should be applied for effective control.
- Paecilomyces spp 1% WP
- For Seed Treatment @ 10 g/kg seed, OR
- For Nursery Treatment 50 gm/meter sq, OR
- For Soil Application 2 kg/acre.

ShareRoot knot nematode of coriander
- Infected roots are formed by nodules and indeterminate shape.
- For its control-Select healthy and disease-free seeds.
- Clean the machines and tools being used in the field.
- Properly manage the weed in the coriander crop.
- Before sowing the coriander, plough the farm deeper and leave the farm open in summer.
- When the infection occurs on the plant, then apply biological control of Paecilomyces lilacinus @ 2-4 kg per acre from drip irrigation.

ShareStem and bulb nematode in Onion and Garlic
Stem and bulb nematode in Onion and Garlic:- Nematode enters through stoma or plant wounds and create galls or malformations in plant growth. This allows for the entrance of secondary pathogens like fungi and bacteria. Symptoms are stunted growth, discoloration of bulbs, and swollen stems.
Management:-
- Bulbs that show signs of disease should not be planted.
- Proper sanitation of fields and tools is essential because this nematode can survive and reproduce in infected plants and residues.
- Apply Carbofuron 3% Granular @ 10 kg/ acre in soil for better control of Nematodes.
- Apply Neem Cake @ 200 Kg/ Acre in soil for organic control of Nematodes.
