How to prevent Watermelon from collar rot

  • This disease occurs due to excessive water accumulation in the field
  • In this disease, dark brown-green spots are formed on the stems.
  • The whole plant rot and die in the final stages.
  • To prevent this disease, seeds should be treated at the rate of Carbendazim 12% + Mancozeb 64% @ 3 g/ kg seed.
  • Trichoderma viride @ 1 kg + Pseudomonas fluorescens @ 1 kg make the solution in 200 litres of water and apply as root drenching or
  • Drenching at 10 days intervals by making a solution of Kasugamycin 5 + Copper Oxychloride 45 45 WP or Carbendazim 3 g or Metalexyl 8% + Mancozeb 64% WP @ 500 g / acre.

  • Crop rotation and ensure good drainage.
  • Sowing of seeds on raised nursery beds.
  • Treating seeds with Carbendazim 12%+ Mancozeb 64% @ 3gm/ kg seeds before sowing.
  • Soil drenching with Carbendazim 50% @ 300 gm/acre or Metalaxyl 8%+Mancozeb 64% @ 500 gm/acrer.

  • Decortication is the main symptom.
  • Exposure and necrosis of underlying tissues may lead to the collapse of the plant.
  • Near the ground surface on the stem may be seen the mycelia.
  • Lack of plant vigor accumulation of water around the stem and mechanical injuries helps in the development of this disease.

Collar rot control in bottle gourd

  • Dark brown water-soaked lesions and girdling at the base of stem occurs. Finally, the entire plant to rot and die.
  • Cottony white mycelium in the surface of the infected tissue occurs with advanced infections.
  • Affected plants can be easily uprooted but the lower part of the root usually remains in soil.
  • Treat the seed with Carbendazim 50% WP @ 2.5  gm/kg of seed before sowing.
  • Drench vine with Mancozeb 63% + Carbendazim 12% WP @ 400 gm/acre or thiophanate methyl 70% WP @ 300 gm/acre are recommended for control.
  • Previous crop residues should be buried deep.

Management of Collar Rot in Soybean:-

Symptoms:-

  • Infection usually occurs at or just below the soil surface.
  • Sudden yellowing or wilting of plants is the first symptom.
  • Light brown lesions, which quickly darken, enlarge until the hypocotyl or stem is girdled.
  • Leaves turn brown, dry and often cling to dead stem.

Management:-

  • Deep ploughing in summer.
  • Crop rotation with maize or sorghum.
  • Destroy infected stubble.
  • Seed treatment with Carbendazim or Thiram 2g/kg of seed.
  • Spot drenching with Carbendazim @ 3 gm/liter or Thiophanate methyl 70% WP @ 2 gm/liter of Water.
