How to identify Gummy Stem blight disease in the pumpkin, watermelon, melon crop.

  • In this disease, infection is visible on almost every part of the plant except the roots.
  • A Yellowness/greenness occurs at the edges of the leaves, while spots start occurring on their surfaces. 
  • The wound is formed on the stem of the plant which is infected by this disease. Then a black-coloured gummy substance starts releasing from this wound. 
  • On the string, brown spots become black spots which later go to the wound.
  • In bottle gourd seeds have medium-brown, dark spots.

Control of Blight and Foot Rot in Pea Crop

  • Use healthy seeds and treat them with Carbendazim+Mancozeb @ 250 Gm/ quintals seed before sowing.  
  • Spray infected crop with Mancozeb 75% @ 400 gm/Acre at flowering and afterwards at 10-15 days intervals .  or
  • Spray infected crop  with Thiophanate methyl 70% Wp @ 250 gram/acre.or
  • Spray infected crop with Chlorothrlonil 75% WP @ 250 gram/acre.
  • Remove diseased plants and destroy them.  
  • Maintain proper drainage.

How to Take care of insect pests & diseases at bud initiation stage of mungbean

    • Pest and disease control is also important if one wants to achieve high production.
    • The loss in the production caused by pest and diseases may reach up to 70% depending upon the severity of the attack.
    • In the summer season, During bud initiation, mungbean may be infested by pod borer, tobacco caterpillar, etc.
    • Mung bean, just like any other legume crop, it is highly susceptible to diseases caused by fungi, bacteria, and viruses. On different growing stages of leaves, stems and roots symptoms can be seen like yellowing, blight and root rot.
    • For Pest control Monocrotophos 36% SL @ 300 ml/acre, Emamectin Benzoate 5% SG @ 100 gm/acre (for Gram pod borer) and Flubendiamide 20% WG @ 100gm/acre OR  Indoxacarb 14.5% SC @ 160-200ml/acre (for tobacco caterpillar).
    • For Disease control, use carbendazim 50% WP @ 300 gram/acre (for blight) and Thiophenate Methyle 70% WP @ 250-300 gram/acre.

Control of Blight in Maize

Corn leaf blight is a fungal disease of maize caused by the plant pathogen Bipolaris maydis. Initially small, water-soaked spots appear on leaves, then elliptical brown areas develop until nearly as wide as the leaf. In the final stages, lesions are straw-coloured to grey, coalescing and killing large parts of the leaves.

Control:-

  • Crop rotation to reduce previous corn residues and disease inoculum.
  • Tillage to help break down crop debris and reduce inoculum load.
  • Avoid repeated use of fungicides with the same active ingredient.
  • Spray Mancozeb 75% WP 400 gm/acre or Metalaxyl 35% WS 150 gm/acre.
