Rooftop Gardening Scheme

To promote urban farming of fruits, flowers, and vegetables, the Bihar government has launched the “Rooftop Gardening Scheme.” Under this scheme, people can grow plants on their rooftops and avail up to 75% subsidy. The scheme is applicable in urban areas of Patna, Bhagalpur, Gaya, and Muzaffarpur.

Two Options Under the Scheme:

  • Farming Bed Scheme – For gardening on 300 sq. ft. rooftops, with a total cost of ₹48,574, farmers will receive ₹36,430.50 as a subsidy.

  • Pot Scheme – For gardening in pots, with a total cost of ₹8,975, beneficiaries will get ₹6,731.25 as a subsidy.

What Will You Get in This Scheme?

  • Portable farming system

  • Organic gardening kit

  • Fruit plants, vegetable grow bags, medicinal plants

  • Drip irrigation system and on-site support

How to Apply?

Interested individuals can apply online through the official website of the Directorate of Horticulture, Bihar. After applying, beneficiaries must deposit their share of the cost, following which the process will be completed.

To boost farmers’ income and promote advanced agricultural techniques, the Bihar government has launched the Protected Farming Scheme (2024-25). This initiative aims to help farmers adopt modern methods like mulching, shade nets, and polyhouses, leading to improved crop quality and higher yields.

What Benefits Do Farmers Get?

Under this scheme, farmers receive financial assistance to adopt innovative farming techniques:

✅ Mulching Technology: Helps in water conservation and soil fertility, available across all districts. Farmers get 50% subsidy on the ₹32,000 per hectare cost, receiving ₹16,000 per hectare.

✅ Shade Net Farming: Protects crops from extreme weather. Farmers receive 50% subsidy, reducing the cost to ₹355 per square meter.

✅ Polyhouse Cultivation: Enables year-round farming in a controlled environment. Farmers get 50% subsidy on the ₹935 per square meter cost, reducing it to ₹467.50 per square meter.

✅ FLD (Front Line Demonstration): Implemented in 15 districts, this initiative provides 75% subsidy for farming on 2,000 square meters.

✅ Rose Farming: Farmers using polyhouse or shade nets for rose cultivation also receive 50% subsidy.

Now severe heat will knock again in North India as well as Central and Western India. Temperatures will increase rapidly in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra and heat wave-like conditions may develop. Light rain will start in eastern Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh from March 19. There is a possibility of rain in eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, North Telangana, Vidarbha and East Madhya Pradesh between March 20 and 23. Also, clouds may rain in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Temperatures will increase rapidly in one part of the country, while rain in the other part will make the weather cool.

Farmers can earn a good income by engaging in animal husbandry alongside farming. To promote this, the Bihar government has launched a special insurance scheme for dairy cattle, ensuring financial security for livestock owners.

Benefits Under the Scheme

  • Livestock owners need to pay only 25% of the insurance premium.

  • The remaining 75% will be covered as a subsidy by the state government.

  • For cattle valued up to ₹60,000, an insurance rate of 3.5% will apply.

  • The total insurance amount is ₹2,100, with ₹1,575 covered by the government and ₹525 payable by the livestock owner.

Objective of the Scheme

This scheme aims to protect livestock owners from financial losses due to diseases like Lumpy Skin Disease, HS, BQ, and other risks.

Under this insurance cover:

  • Members of dairy cooperative societies will receive priority.
  • A health certificate issued by a veterinarian is mandatory for cattle.
  • Livestock owners will get financial protection in emergencies.

Livestock owners can avail the benefits of this scheme by applying online through the official website of the Directorate of Dairy Development. The entire process is digital, allowing applicants to easily access the scheme from home.
