Land Preparation for potato farming

  • Potato is the main cash crop of the Rabi season.

  • According to the type of soil, 3-4 plows should be done in the field. Generally the first ploughing is done with soil turning plough. Second and third ploughing should be done with indigenous plough or harrows. If there is delay in cultivation, after each ploughing, make the soil friable by using a leveler. And by leveling the field, it facilitates the development of potato tubers.

  • Maintain sufficient moisture in the soil before sowing. For planting, two methods are widely used, 1) Ridge and Furrow Method 2) Flat Bed Method.

  • The spacing of tubers when sowing depends on the size of the tubers. If the diameter of the tubers is 2.5-3.5 cm, then the tubers should be planted at a distance of 60 x 15 cm. As the diameter of the tuber is 5-6 cm, it should be planted at a distance of 60 x 40 cm.

  • Dig a 6-8 inch deep pit in the prepared fields and plant a piece of potato facing upwards.

Treat with Combat (Trichoderma Viridi 1.0% WP) @ 5 gm or Monas Curb (Pseudomonas florenses 1.0% WP) @ @ 5 gm/kg seed.

Chemical seed treatment

Sprint (Carbendazim 25% + Mancozeb 50% WS) @ 6-7 grams or Emesto Prime (Penflufen 240 FS) @ 10 ml, per 10 kg seed must be treated with This can save the crop from late blight, black scurf diseasea.
