Red Pumpkin Beetle in Watermelon:-

Damage-

  • The grubs feed on the roots and underground portion of host plants and fruits touching the soil.
  • The damaged roots and infested underground, portion of stems start rotting due to secondary infection by saproliytic fungi, and the unripe fruits of such vines dry up.
  • Infested fruits become unfit for human consumption.
  • Adult beetles feed voraciously on leaf lamina making irregular holes.
  • They prefer young seedling and tender leaves and damage may even kill the seedlings.

Control-

  • As insect pupate in the soil, deep ploughing soon after the crop exposes and kill grubs and pupae.
  • Apply Cartap hydrochloride 3 G granule 3-4cm deep in soil near base of germinated seedlings.
  • Spray the crop with Cypermethrin 25% EC (1 ml/lit) +Dimethoat 30% EC (2 Ml/litre ) or Carbaryl 50% WP (3 gm/Litre) of water at fortnight intervals starting from 25 days after transplanting to control the pest.

  • White to dirty gray spots or patches appears on leaves which become white powdery as they enlarge.
  • Fortnightly spray hexaconazole 5% SC 300 ml per acre or thiophanate methyl 70% WP 400 gm per acre.

  • The affected parts turn yellow, get curled, wrinkle and deformed in shape and ultimately dry and die away.

  • Seeds are sown in furrows at a distance of 1.0-1.5 meter between plants.
  • When cucumber is trained on bower fallow a spacing of 3 *1m.
  • When seeds are sown at a distance of 0.5cm 75meter with 4-6 seed/hill allow two ph plants/hill to grow in hilly areas.

  • Lands is ploughed 4-5 time to a fine filth and rotten farm yard manure and manure @20-25 tones/ha is incorporated in the soil at the time of final ploughing.
  • If the soil is infasted with nematods, white ants or red ants apply Carbofuran @25kg/ha.
  • After leveling the field 60cm wide channels are made at a distance of 2.0- to 2.5 cm.
  • The length of channel depends on source of irrigation, season, rainfall and slope land.

Nutrient management of Cabbage

Nutrient management of Cabbage:-

  • Cabbage is a heavy feeder crop.
  • Fertilizer dose depends upon the soil and amount of organic manure applied to the crop.
  • For a good yield, 15-20 tones of well decomposed FYM is incorporated in the soil about 4 weeks before transplanting.
  • Recommeded doses of fertilizer for normal varieties 100 Kg: 60 Kg P and 100 Kg K/ ha hybrids -120-180 kg N 100 Kg P and 100 Kg K /ha.
  • Half the dose of nitrogen and full dose of P and K should be applied at the time of final preparation of field.
  • Remaining half dose of nitrogen should be applied as top dressing in spilt doses followed by earthing up.

  • The field is ploughed to fine tilth by giving 3-4 ploughing with a sufficient interval between two ploughing.
  • Planting should be done on the flat land, ridge or in furrows depending on climate and soil conditions.
  • For early planting, ridge method is suitable especially in areas where the rains occur at time of planting.
  • In saline soils, planting are preferred in furrows and in dry areas transplanting on flat beds.
