Importance of Zinc solubilizing bacteria

Zinc solubilizing bacteria naturally occurring and beneficial bacteria which produces various organic acids and makes solubilization of inorganic zinc and convert into bio-available form which helps in plant growth and multiplication.

  • Useful for deficiency of zinc in Paddy (Khera disease), tomato, onion, wheat, okra.
  • Increase crop yield and the quality of the produce
  • Increase hormones activities
  • Increase Plant growth and root growth
  • Increase photosynthetic activity
  • Increase soil fertility and the effect can be seen on next crop season because of bacterial multiplication and presence.

Control of Leaf Hopper and Jassid in Snake gourd

  • Nymphs and adults are sucking the cell sap of leaves of snake gourd vines causing typical hopper burn symptoms.
  • Initially, leaf margins turn yellow in colour and finally dry off. Fruit size and quality are also reduced.
  • Soil application of Carbofuran 3 G @ 10 Kg/acre at the time of sowing.
  • Spray Profenophos 50% EC @ 400 Ml/acre or Acetamiprid 20% WP @ 80 gm/acre at fortnightly intervals starting with the appearance of the jassid.
  • Prophylactic spray of Neem oil-garlic mixture at fortnightly intervals is advantageous for avoiding pest incidence.

Control of downy mildew in Snake gourd

  • During wet season, corresponding lower surface is covered with faint purplish fungal growth.
  • The entire leaf dries up quickly.
  • Use of bed system with wide spacing with good drainage and air movement and exposure to sun help to check the disease development.
  • Spray with Mancozeb 75% WP @ 350-400 gm/acre or Chlorothalonil 75% WP @ 200-250 gm/ acre.

Nutrient management in tomato

  • Apply well rotted FYM / compost @ 6-8 tonnes/acre at the time of land preparation and mix well with the soil.
  • Apply  DAP@ 70kg,  Urea @ 105kg, muriate of potash @ 50 kg/acre.
  • One-fourth of nitrogen and half of potash may be applied 20-30 days after planting.
  • Borax @ 4 kg and Zinc sulphate @ 20 kg/acre as basal dose and 30 kg Urea/acre on 30th day after planting.

Control of Powdery Mildew of Snake gourd

  • White to dirty gray spots or patches appears on leaves which become white powdery as they enlarge.
  • Fortnightly spray hexaconazole 5% SC @ 300 ml per acre or thiophanate methyl 70% WP @ 400 gm per acre.

Irrigation in Bottle gourd

  • Irrigate the field before dibbling the seeds and thereafter once a week.
  • February – March sown crop, first irrigation is given 2-3 days after sowing.
  • After that irrigation givens at 7-8 day interval.

Drip irrigation

  • Install drip system with main and sub-main pipes and place the inline lateral tubes at an interval of 1.5 m. Place the drippers at an interval of 60 cm and 50 cm spacing with 4 LPH and 3.5 LPH capacities respectively.

Fertilizer requirements in Bottle gourd

  • Add farmyard manure @ 10 tonnes/acre at the time of field preparation.
  • Application of 30 kg urea, 80 kg single super phosphate and 30 kg muriate of potash per acre at the time of field preparation.
  • Apply another 30 kg urea per acre in 2-3  split doses at the time of vining and initial fruit set.
  • Total P & K and one-third of Nitrogen can be applied basally about 8-10 cm away from the seeds.
  • Nitrogen deficiency causes yellowing of vine and foliage and checks the vegetative growth.
  • Deficiency of K reduces plant height and area of foliage causing flower drop and checks the fruiting.

Advantage of PSB in watermelon

  • Increase micronutrients availability to plant from the soil like Mn, Mg, Fe, Mo, B, Zn and Cu in addition to P2O5.
  • Encourage faster root growth for water and nutrient uptake.
  • PSB produce organic acids like malic, succinic, fumaric, citric, tartaric acid and acetic acid which fasten the P2O5 uptake, maturity and increase yield.
  • Increase resistance towards diseases and drought tolerance due to rapid cell development in the plants.
  • Reduce 25 – 30% phosphatic fertilizer requirement.

Irrigation Schedule in Muskmelon

  • Muskmelon responds very much to irrigation but it can not withstand waterlogged condition.
  • Irrigate the field before dibbling the seeds and thereafter once in a week.
  • It is generally cultivated as a spring-summer crop in which frequency of irrigation is very important.
  • Soil moisture stress during pre-flowering, flowering, and fruit development stage drastically reduce yield.
  • Irrigation should be stopped during ripening as it adversely affects fruit quality and promotes fruit cracking.
  • Frequently irrigation promotes diseases on the plants for the controlling diseases control measure may be applied.
