How to manage fruit fly outbreak in bitter gourd

How to manage fruit fly outbreak in bitter gourd
  • The maggot burrow into the fruits and suck the sap.

  • Infested fruits decay and drop.

  • The fly mainly prefers tender fruits for egg laying.

  • Ovipositional punctures caused by adults also cause injury to fruits and fruit juices ooze out.

  • This also results in distorted and malformed.

  • The maggots feed on the pulp of fruits as well as on the immature seeds and cause premature dropping of fruits.

Management of fruit fly in bitter gourd

  • Collect and destroy infested fruits.

  • To prevent egg laying, fly traps(pheromone traps) can be set up in the field with 1% Methyl Eugenol or Citronella oil or Vinegar or Dextrose or Acetic acid or Lactic acid.

  • Cover developing fruits with paper or polythene cover immediately after anthesis pollination.

  • Maize plants grown in rows at a distance of 8-10 cm in the field are effective as flies rest on such tall plants.

  • Deep ploughing to expose hibernating stages.

  • Flubendiamide 8.33 % + Deltamethrin 5.56 % w/w SC @ 100-125 ml/acre.

Root rot problem and preventive measures due to excessive water logging in soybean crops

Root rot problem and preventive measures due to excessive water logging in soybean crops

Waterlogging refers to a condition when water is present in the field in excess of its optimum requirement. Excess water in the field causes the following losses :-

Due to excessive water logging in soybean crops, there is a hindrance in air circulation and a fall in soil temperature, as well as the activity of beneficial bacteria decreases, and the nitrogen fixation process is not done properly, due to which the roots of the plants are completely destroyed. Air, water, nutrients and free space are not available in quantity. And due to excessive water logging, harmful salts get collected due to which the problem of root rot is seen.

Drainage is necessary to reduce water logging in the field. It is a crop that can neither tolerate drought nor can tolerate excessive water. Therefore, for drainage, a drain should be prepared at the time of sowing and in case of waterlogging in the field, make additional drainage drains and take the water out from the field.

Good news for farmers, government is giving up to 10 lakhs

Warehouse Subsidy Scheme

Due to lack of proper storage, many farmers have to suffer heavy losses. Many farmers are forced to sell their produce at low prices to avoid this loss. At the same time, with the help of warehouses, farmers are able to keep their produce safe for a longer time. If we talk about Bihar, there are many districts here where even today the facility of warehouse is not available. Due to this, the farmers of the state are very upset. Not every farmer is financially capable to open a warehouse. That is why the government is giving subsidy to farmers on opening warehouses.

The Bihar government has started the “Warehouse Subsidy Scheme” to solve the problem related to crop storage of the farmers of the state. The main objective of this scheme is to help the farmers of the state to keep their crops safe for a long time and get better prices. By taking advantage of this scheme, farmers will be able to keep their crops safe for a long time and will also be able to get good profits by selling them in the market at the right time. Let us tell you that through this scheme, subsidy will be given for building warehouses with a capacity of 100 and 200 metric tonnes. To avail the benefits of the scheme, farmers can visit the DBT portal (dbtagriculture.bihar.gov.in) and apply.

Identification and control measures of aphids in cotton crops

Identification and control measures of aphids in cotton crops

Aphid :- Aphid is a small insect that sucks the sap of leaves. The young and adults of this insect are greenish-yellow in color, which are found in innumerable numbers on the lower surface of the leaves, which suck the sap of the leaves. As a result, the leaves shrink and the color of the leaves becomes yellow. Later the leaves become stiff and dry and fall off after some time. Plants on which there is an outbreak of aphid, that plant does not develop properly and the plant appears to be diseased.

Control Measures:-

  • For the control of this pest, spray  Marshal (Carbosulfan 25% EC) @ 500 ml or Novaceta (Acetamiprid 20% SC) @ 20 gm  or KRI-March (Buprofezine 25% SC) @ 400 ml + Silico Maxx @ 50 ml, per acre 150 -200 liters of water.

  • For biological control, spray Briged B (BEAUVERIA BASSIANA 1.15% WP) @1 kg/acre @ 150-200 liters of water.

  • Apart from this, farmers should install yellow sticky traps @ 8-10 per acre, in the field to report pest infestation. This will indicate the pest outbreak, on the basis of which the farmers can save the crop from pest infestation by adopting the above mentioned measures.
