Summer ploughing of farms and its benefits

Summer ploughing of farms and its benefits

Farmers usually do the ploughing of the field just before sowing, whereas for good production of the Kharif crop, it is very useful to do deep ploughing of the field immediately after harvesting of Rabi crop and leave the field empty in the summer season.

Benefits of summer ploughing

  • Due to summer ploughing, the sun’s strong rays enter the ground, due to which the egg, pupa, larvae and adults of underground insects are destroyed.

  • The germs of diseases like uprooting, root rot, etc and nematodes which occur in crops, are also destroyed.

  • Due to the formation of lumps in the soil of the field, the capacity of absorbing rainwater increases. Due to this, the moisture remains in the soil for a longer time.

  • Deep ploughing can get rid of tough weeds.

  • Due to summer ploughing, the manure of cow dung and other organic matter available in the field gets mixed well in the land, due to which the nutrients become available to the crops soon.

  • Due to summer ploughing, there is a huge reduction in land erosion by water.

  • The damage caused by insects, sucking of sap from leaves, stems, flowers and fruits, eating soft tender leaves and stems, deforming flowers and fruits, holes in stems and fruits, cutting roots of plants, etc.

  • Use of pseudomonas for bacterial diseases.

  • For diseases, chemicals like carbendazim, mancozeb, propiconazole etc. can be used.

  • For viral diseases, pick up the diseased plants and burn them.

In this way, you can protect the harvested crops

How to protect the harvested crops
  • At present, the work of threshing, harvesting of gram, mustard, wheat etc. is going on in the fields. After the completion of this work, it is very important to protect the produce. For this, the following things can be kept in mind –

  • Do not stack the harvested crops under the power lines, near the transformer, or on the roadside. To prevent accidents and arson.

  • Also, keep in mind that while doing the threshing of the crop, there should be no inconvenience to yourself, the workers and the general public, so do not do threshing at the roadside place. Due to this fine husk does not accumulate on the roads and vehicle accidents do not happen.

  • Persons working on Thresher should not wear loose clothing, wear a cloth around the neck and do not smoke at all. For safety and vigilance, keep a water tank and sand nearby, so that no incident can happen.

  • Till the farmers do not store the crop in a protective way, do not be careless and do the processing after harvesting the Rabi crops in a protective way..

  • Make sure to keep the contact numbers of the nearest Electricity Department and Disaster Management Office and their officers.

  • Before sowing the crop, you must ensure your crop is under the Prime Minister’s Fasal Bima Yojana, so that the loss due to natural calamity can be compensated.
