How to prevent early blight disease in tomato crop

  • This disease is caused by a fungus called Alternaria solani.

  • In the initial symptoms of this disease, round dark brown spots are formed on the leaves. As the disease progresses, first oval and then cylindrical spots are formed on the stem.

  • Round oval or concentric spots are formed on the leaves which are brown in color.

  • The spots gradually increase in size which later covers the entire leaf and the leaves turn yellow, causing great damage to the plant. Use the following products to prevent this disease.

  • Use Mancozeb 75% WP @ 600 g/acre OR Carbendazim 12% + Mancozeb 63% @ 300 g/acre OR Thiophanate Methyl 70%W/W @ 300 g/acre OR Chlorothalonil 75% WP @ 400 g/acre |

  • As a biological treatment, spray Trichoderma viride @ 500 g/acre or Pseudomonas fluorescens @ 250 g/acre.
