To increase the income of farmers, many types of schemes are being run by the central and state governments. The government is now encouraging farmers to cultivate horticulture and other cash crops along with traditional crops. The state government of Bihar has also taken a big initiative to increase farmers’ income. The state government is going to provide training to the farmers to cultivate fish farming, makhana and water fruit water chestnuts on the same aquatic farm. With this government step, farmers will be able to do three types of work in the same field and earn more.

The Secretary of the State Agriculture Department has also instructed to conduct a comparative study of the production of Sabour Makhana-1 developed by the Makhana Research Center and the benefits of Makhana produced from traditional seeds and the Makhana produced in the pond. To provide improved Makhana seed varieties, the research centre needs to produce quality seeds and develop new seed varieties.
