Diagnosis of flower dropping problem in cucurbits

  • Under the cucurbitaceous crops, comes mainly cucumber, bottle gourd, bitter gourd, sponge gourd, pumpkin, ash gourd, watermelon and muskmelon etc.

  • The reasons for flower dropping in these crops can be a lack of nutrients, an outbreak of pests and diseases, excess moisture, environmental changes etc.

  • To prevent flower drop,use Homobrassinolide [Double] @ 100 or Paclobutrazol 40% SC [Taboli] @ 30 ml/acre.

  • Spray of Alpha Naphthyl Acetic Acid 4.5% SL [Planofix] 80 ml per acre is also beneficial in preventing flower drop.

  • To increase the number of flowers in the crop, 0:52:34 can be sprayed at the rate of 1 kg per acre.
