Start your own cold storage on government subsidy

Most of the farmers have to suffer heavy losses due to a lack of proper storage. Many farmers are forced to sell their produce at low prices to avoid this loss. At the same time, with the help of cold storage, farmers are able to preserve their produce for a longer time.

However, not every farmer is financially capable to open cold storage. Taking a solution to this problem of farmers, the government has started the ‘Integrated Development Mission’. Under this scheme, farmers get grants for setting up cold storage.

Under this scheme, farmers are not given loans for setting up cold storage, but instead, the government gives them credit linked to the back-ended subsidy. The farmers of hilly areas get the maximum benefit from this scheme. They are given a subsidy of 50% of the project cost. On the other hand, in normal and plain areas, the benefit is obtained at the rate of 35% of the project cost. Apart from this, units with a capacity of more than one thousand metric tonnes also get the benefit.

To take advantage of this scheme, the applicant has to submit the proposal to the respective district offices. Where applications are accepted on a first come first serve basis.
