Method of sowing in cotton

The soil should be well crushed by deep ploughing in the field.
About 450 grams of cotton seed per acre of hybrid or Bt variety is used for sowing.
In hybrid and Bt castes, the distance from row to row is 4 feet (48 inch) and between plant and plant is 1.5 (18 inch) feet.
Give the first irrigation just after sowing.

Cloves are sown in September-November in central India.
The selection of cloves is important for garlic planting.
Individual cloves from seed garlic bulbs should be separated but not long before planting.
Twist off the outer skins and take the cloves apart without breaking the basal plate of the cloves, as that makes them unusable for planting.
With hardneck garlic, the remainder of the stem acts as a handy lever for separating the cloves.
Big cloves (>1.5g) should be selected for planting. Small, diseased and damaged cloves should be rejected.
The seed rate for garlic is 160-200 kg/acre.
Selected cloves should be planted vertically 2 cm below the soil surface with the plant to plant spacing of 10 cm and row to row spacing of 15 cm.

Soak seeds in water for 24-48 hrs to facilitate germination.
About 1 to1.5 kg seed is enough for an acre.
Four to five seeds are sown per pit.
Remove unhealthy plants after two weeks and retain three plants per lit.
300-500 gm/acre seed for hybrid and private sector varieties. seed rate varies on variety to variety and sowing spacing.

Two seeds per hill are dibbled manually or mechanically one third from the top on the side of the ridge.
Excess seedlings should be thinned out 10 days after emergence to have single seedling per hill.

The okra is sown on the flat soil or the ridge, if the soil is heavy then it should be sown on the ridge.
Hybrid varieties of okra are applied on a distance of 75 x 30 cm or 60 x 45 cm.
Irrigation is beneficial for 3-4 days before sowing the okra.
The seeds sprout in about 4-5 days.

Bitter gourd seeds have a hard seed coat; soak 2-3-month-old seeds overnight in cold water.
Seeds are then kept in moist cloth and kept for one or two days for germination.
Seeds are immediately sown in pits after germination.
4-5 seeds are directly sown in each pit.
About 1.5- 2 kg local seed is enough for a acre.
400-600 gm/acre seed for hybrid and private sector varieties. seed rate vary on variety to variety and sowing spacing.
Direct seed sowing is the most common method of planting.
On raised furrow beds, 4-5 seeds are sown per hole at a depth of 2 cm.

In central India, furrow, bed and pit (deep, shallow and mounds) sowing methods are followed.
Usually, sowing is done on the top of the sides of furrows and vines are allowed to trail on the ground especially in summer season.
About 5-6 seeds are sown in a pit and finally, two vines are retained.
It is advisable to soak seeds for 12 hours to facilitate germination.
For transplanting method, seeds are sown in polythene bags (10 x 15 cm size) filled with potting mixture.
The seedling should be transplanted at two-leaf stage or after three weeks.
