Know why soil treatment is necessary? And how to treat it

Soil Treatment: – It is very important to do soil treatment before sowing in the field or bed in which sowing is to be done. Soil treatment is done to protect the plant from soil borne pests and fungi. Because the residues of old crops remain in the field. This residue causes the growth of some harmful fungi and insects. To protect the crops from these fungi and pests, soil treatment is done before sowing.

Soil treatment

  • Combat (Trichoderma viride 1.0% WP) @ 2 kg or Monas Curb (Pseudomonas Florence 1.0% WP) @ 500-1000 gm + Kalichakra (Metarhizium anisopliae 1.0% WP) @ 1-2 kg per acre, Mix with well-rotted FYM or vermicompost and apply it evenly in the field. Do not mix Kalichakra with any chemical fungicide.

Soil treatment is necessary for chilli nursery

  • Sowing chilli seeds after treating the soil in the nursery makes chilli seedlings very good and disease-free.

  • For soil treatment use 10 kg FYM,1 kg DAP and Maxxroot 50 gm per square meter.

  • To protect the bed from ants and termites, use Carbofuran @ 15 gm per bed, after that sow the seeds.

  • After completing the sowing process, keep irrigating the nursery as needed.

  • To prevent weeds in the nursery stage of chilli, weeding should also be done as per the requirement.

Importance of soil treatment before sowing of Rabi crops

Importance of soil treatment before sowing of Rabi crops
  • In any season soil treatment is very necessary before sowing the crop.

  • Soil fertility and nutrient management are very important factors for good crop yield and disease-free crops which have a direct impact on crop yield and quality.

  • After Kharif season, before the sowing of rabi crops, there is too much moisture left in the soil which causes a lot of infestation of fungal diseases and insect-borne diseases.

  • Soil treatment is done with fungicides and insecticides for the prevention of fungal disease and insect-borne diseases.

  • Soil treatment is also very important to overcome the deficiency of nutrients in the soil,

  • Soil treatment improves soil texture and increases production.

How to do soil treatment in early cauliflower nursery

How to do soil treatment in Cotton crop?
  • While making nursery beds, add FYM to the land @ 8-10 kg per square meter. 25 grams of Trichoderma viride should be mixed at the rate of per square meter to protect against damping off diseases. Or
  • To protect the plant from the damage by damping off disease, drenching with 3 ml Metalaxyl 4% + Mancozeb 64% WP or 2 gm of Thiophanate methyl 75 WP in one liter water.
  • To protect the plants from the attack of sucking pests @ 0.5 gm Thiamethoxam 25% WG per square meter at the time of nursery preparation.

How to do soil treatment without using chemicals?

There are mainly two ways of doing soil treatment using chemicals, which are as follows:

Soil solarization– Due to strong sunlight and high temperature, summer is the best time for soil solarization. In this process, the seed-plots (seedbeds) are covered by a transparent sheet of plastic for one to two months.  The edges of the plastic sheet should be covered with soil so that air cannot enter inside. This process increases the temperature inside the plastic film, which destroy the harmful pests, the spores of diseases and the seeds of some weeds present in the soil. The Soil solarization reduces soilborne diseases and pests in the seedbeds. In this way, you can reduce the pests in the soil without using any kind of chemicals.

Organic method –

In this method, the soil is treated with fungicide Trichoderma viridi (Sanjivani / Combate) and insecticide Bueveria basiana (Bave Curb). Take 8-10 tons of good rotten cow dung and mix 2 kg of Sanjivani / Combate and Bave Curb and maintain moisture in the mixture. This mixture should not get direct sunlight. So, do this process under a shade or tree. Maintain the moisture by spraying some water on the mixture whenever needed.  After 4-5 days, the colour of the manure becomes light green due to the germination of the fungus. After that, the fertilizer is turned upside down so that the fungus can be contained in the bottom layer also. After 7 to 10 days, this mixture should be scattered in the field. By doing this, the harmful pests present in the land, their eggs, pupa and spores of fungi can be destroyed. The soil enrichment kit by Gramophone contains all the biological products that improve soil structure, increase the number of beneficial organisms and availability of plant nutrients, destroy harmful fungi, grow roots, increase rhizobium in roots and increase nitrogen fixation.

Increase yield of Summer Moong through land and seed treatment

Soil treatment:

  • land treatment is very important before starting the agricultural process in summer moong. It helps in destroying harmful pests and fungi present in the soil.
  • Mix 4 kg of composting bacteria and 1 kg of Trichoderma Viridi in 6-8 tons FYM and spread it over an acre field.

Seed treatment:

  • seed treatment is also very important before starting the agricultural process in summer moong. It helps in destroying harmful fungi and sucking pests.

Mung seeds can be treated with either 2.5 grams of carboxin 37.5% + Thiram 37.5% DS per kg seed or

  • They can also be treated using 5-10 grams Trichoderma viridi / Pseudomonas fluorescence and 5 ml imidacloprid 48 FS per kg seed.

Use of Trichoderma :- When, How and Why ?

Trichoderma is most useful for all types of Plants and Vegetables such as cauliflower, cotton, soybean, sugarcane, etc.

  1. Seed treatment: Mix 1 kg of Trichoderma powder per quintal of seeds before sowing.
  2. seedling root dip: Mix 10kg FYM + 100 ltr of water + 1 kg Trichoderma powder mix well and dip the seedling roots for 10 minutes before transplanting.
  3. Soil treatment: Apply 4 Kg of Trichoderma powder per acre with 50 kg of well rotten FYM.
  4. Plant Treatment: Drench the soil near stem region with 10g Trichoderma powder mixed in a liter of water.

Precautions:

  • Don’t use chemical fungicide after application of Trichoderma for 4-5 days.
  • Don’t use Trichoderma in dry soil. Moisture is an essential factor for its growth and survivability.
  • Don’t put the treated seeds in direct sun rays.
  • Don’t keep the treated FYM for a longer duration.
