- Rhizobium bacteria is found in the roots of moong plants which causes atmospheric nitrogen fixation and increases crop yield.
- Use of Rhizobium culture produces fast nodules in pulses, which increases 20-30 % yield of Moong, Gram, Pigeonpea and Urad and 50-60% increases soybean yield.
- The use of Rhizobium culture increases about 30-40 kg of nitrogen per hectare in the land.
- Seed treatment in moong is done with 5-10 gram of Rhizobium culture while the Soil treatment is done by mixing 1 kg / acre for pre-sowing with 50 kg FYM.
- The nitrogen deposited by Rhizobium bacteria present in the roots of the pulse crop is used in the next crop, which reduces the need of nitrogen in the next crop.
Importance of Rhizobium culture in soybean crop
- Rhizobium is a bacteria found in soybean roots which increases the crop yield by atmospheric nitrogen fixing. But currently the amount of undesirable elements in the soil has so much increased that the bacteria of Rhizobium in the soybean crop are unable to function to the best of their ability.
- Therefore, using Rhizobium culture produces fast legume in the roots of soybean crop and increases the yield of soybean by 50-60%.
- The use of Rhizobium culture increases about 12-16 kg of nitrogen to the soil per acre.
- Rhizobium culture is done by adding 5 grams per kg of seed for seed treatment and 1 kg of culture per 50 kg FYM before sowing for soil treatment.
- Nitrogen deposited by Rhizobium bacteria present in the roots of the pulses is used in the next crop, which also requires less fertilization in the next crop.
How to seed treatment with Rhizobium culture
- Add 250 grams of jaggery to 1 liter of water and heat it for about 15 minutes and make a solution.
- When the solution cool, add 3 packets (600 grams) of Rhizobium culture to it and stir gently with a wooden stick.
- This solution should be sprinkled slowly on the seeds in such a way that the layer of solution sticks to all the seeds equally. It is enough for 10 kg of seeds.
- Wear the gloves in hands and mix the seeds well and dry them in a shady place. Make sure that the seeds do not stick together.
- Sowing the treated seeds soon.
Advantage of rhizobium culture in crops
- The effective strain used in Rhizobium culture increases the healthy nodulation and thereby nitrogen fixation (about 40 to 50 kg. per hectare).
- These bacteria take nitrogen from the air (which plants cannot use) and convert it into a form of nitrogen called ammonium (NH4+), which plants can use.
- About 10 to 15% increase of crop yield can be achieved with the use of this culture.

Nitrogen fixing bacteria are beneficial bacteria capable of transforming atmospheric nitrogen in to fixed nitrogen (inorganic compounds usable by plants). Same important Nitrogen fixing bacteria like Rhizobium, Azospirillum, Azotobactor etc. used by farmers as a culture. Apply through seed treatment 5 gm per kg seed or 2 kg per acre through soil application with 100 kg FYM.
