When and how to use Mycorrhiza

Mycorrhiza effect on chilli plant
  • It provides strength to the plants, making them disease-free and stress-tolerant
  • Increases the immune power of the crop in turn increasing product quality.
  • Mycorrhiza expands the area of the roots increasing their water absorption rate.

Mycorrhiza can be used in three ways

  • Soil treatment: Mix 4 kg/acre Mycorrhiza in 50 kg of well-decomposed cow dung or vermicompost/farm soil and then mix it in the soil before sowing
  • Broadcasting: In 25-30 days of sowing, Mix 4 kg/acre Mycorrhiza in 50 kg of well-decomposed cow dung or vermicompost/farm soil and then spread over the soil.
  • Through drip irrigation: Use of Mycorrhiza as drip irrigation 25-30 days of sowing at the rate of 100 gram/acre in standing crop.

What is Mycorrhiza and its importance in Chilli

Mycorrhiza effect on chilli plant
  • Mycorrhiza is an organic fertilizer that maintains a connection between fungi and plant roots. In this type of relationship, the fungus becomes dependent on the root of the plants and becomes an important component of soil-life.
  • The use of mycorrhiza leads to better growth of roots.
  • Mycorrhiza helps in the availability of phosphorus and other micronutrients from the soil for the plants.
  • Mycorrhiza increases phosphorus availability from the soil by 60–80%.
  • Mycorrhiza increases tolerance of the plant to drought by increasing the rate of water absorption by plants. Due to which it helps to keep the plants green.
  • Hence, it plays an important role in increasing crop yield.

Why, when and how to add mycorrhiza in the field

  • Improve plant root growth and development
  • Increase the uptake and mobilization of phosphate in all crops
  • Increase and facilitate nutrient and translocation from the soil and root cuticle parenchyma to Xylem, Phloem, elements like nitrogen, potassium, iron, manganese, magnesium, copper, zinc, boron, sulfur and molybdenum.
  • Effective in overcoming the stress conditions like drought, disease incidence, and deficiency of nutrients.
  • Enhance product quality and increase the immune power of the crop
  • Its supplement root hair in water absorption hence prevents the reduction in crop relative water content of cells and helps to overcome drought.
  • Soil Treatment – Mix Premium mycorrhiza 4 kg per acre in 50 Kg of well-decomposed Fym/compost/vermicompost/field soil and incorporated in the soil before sowing/transplant.
  • Broadcast the above mixture in standing crop 25-30 days after sowing.

Use of Bio-Fertilizer mycorrhiza (VAM)

Bio-Fertilizer mycorrhiza (VAM) :- The mycorrhiza is association between fungal mycelia and plant roots. VAM is an endotrophic (live inside) mycorrhiza formed by aseptate phycomycetons fungi. VAM is a fungus that penetrates the roots of a plant to helps them to take nutrients from the soil. VAM help in nutrient uptake mainly of phosphorus, zinc and sulphur. The VAM hyphae also help is retaining moisture around the root zone of plants. It increase the resistance to root borne or soil borne pathogens and nematodes. They also mobilize different nutrients like Cu (copper), K (potassium), Al (aluminium), Mn (manganese), Fe (iron) and Mg (magnesium) from the soil to the plant roots. Mycorrhiza should be applied 4 kg per acre for all crops as basal dose or after 25-30 days after sowing.
