Nutrient management in maize crop at 40 to 45 days stage

  • Maize is the main crop of Kharif season, but where there are irrigation facilities, Maize can be cultivated as an early crop of Rabi and Kharif. Maize is an excellent source of carbohydrates. It is a multi-use crop, it is a major component of human as well as animal feed and Maize cultivation also has an important place in the industrial sector.

  • Maize crops should be weed free so that the main crop will directly absorb nutrients and there will be no loss of nutrients. And the crop will also be healthy.

  • Nutrient management is an important aspect to get a higher yield of maize. Apply Urea @ 35 kg, micronutrient mixture Calbor (Boron 4 + Calcium 11 + Magnesium 1 + Potassium 1.7 + Sulfur 12 %) @ 5 kg per acre.

  • Flowering starts at the age of 40 to 45 days in maize crop. For higher flowering, spray Homobrassinolide 0.04% w/w (Double) @ 100 ml per acre @ 150 to 200 Ltr of water.

Measures for the problem of fall armyworm pest in maize crop

This pest attacks at all stages of maize. Generally it attacks the leaves of maize, but in case of severe infestation, it also starts harming the corn cob. The larvae attack the upper part of the plant or the soft leaves, small holes appear on the leaves of the affected plant.

Newborn larvae scrape and eat the leaves of the plant, causing white stripes to appear on the leaves. As the larva grows up, it completely eats the upper leaves of the plant. Apart from this, they also eat soft leaves by entering inside of the plant. 

control measures

To control, spray Emanova (Emamectin Benzoate 5% SG) @ 100 gm or Barazide (Novaluron 5.25% + Emamectin Benzoate 0.9% SC) @ 600 ml + Silico Maxx @ 50 ml, @ 150 to 200 liters of water per acre.

  • Nutrient management is an important aspect for high yield of maize, if nutrient management is done properly, the plants can be kept healthy, which in turn helps in making them tolerant to natural stress and pests.

  • proper use of chemical fertilizers, micronutrients, organic fertilizers,  FYM and green manure etc. is necessary.

  •  Spread evenly in the field 15 -20 days before sowing of seeds  FYM at the rate of 4 tones + Combat (Trichoderma viride) 2 kg per acre. 

  • Thereafter at the time of sowing, DAP 50 kg, MOP 40 kg, Urea 25 kg, TABA G (ZnSB) 4 kg, TB 3 (NPK consortia) 3 kg,  Maxxmyco (seaweed, amino, humic and mycorrhiza) @ 2 kg per acre.
