For the past few weeks, locust attacks have been taking place in several districts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. In this episode, locusts attacked Madhya Pradesh’s capital Bhopal on Sunday evening. Millions of locusts spread from Hoshangabad Road to Barkheda Pathani, AIIMS and Awadhpuri areas.

According to reports, the locust team entered Bhopal via Vidisha from Berasia. On Saturday night, the administration received news of the locust in Berasia. From Berasia to Vidisha Naka, the Agriculture Department had made arrangements to stop the locusts, but on Sunday evening the locust team entered Bhopal.

However, the Agriculture Department is making arrangements to deal with the locust team. For this, the Agriculture Department has prepared a team who will kill them by spraying chemical on locusts. For this, help of fire brigade will also be taken.

Before Bhopal, locust teams damaged crops in Vidisha. It is being told that the grasshopper team has attacked here for the fourth time. Here, the crops of moong and vegetables have suffered heavy losses in 6 villages.

These locusts enter Rajasthan from Iran through Pakistan and then cause heavy damage to crops in the inner states of India. It is reported that more than 9 new locust teams from Pakistan have reached different districts of Rajasthan and they may soon cause damage in many areas of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

The Department of Agriculture is also on alert to see the possibilities of these new locust teams having reached Rajasthan in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. In the coming days, the direction of the wind will decide whether it enters other states. If the wind direction does not change, the 12-km locust team will enter MP and UP within the next few days.

  • If you see a bunch of locusts sitting in your fields in the evening, then cultivate the field at night. Apart from this, run the pillar behind the cultivator, iron pipe, or any other similar item through the dam. By doing this, the land behind will be flat again and the locust will die by pressing into it.
  • The places where the locusts lay eggs can be destroyed by digging or by filling water or plowing. Or Malathion 5% powder should be burnt at @ 10 kg per acre.
  • Nymphs of locust coming out of the eggs are not able to move in the first and second stages, so they should be destroyed. In the third stage, they start walking in the herd, so dig a trench about 2.5 feet deep and 1 foot wide in the walking direction so that Nymphs of locust fall in it and then destroy it by pressing into the soil.
  • Locusts can be killed by spraying them with pesticides.
  • For locust control, Chlorpyrifos 20% EC @ 480 ml or Chlorpyrifos 50% EC @ 200 ml or Deltamethrin 2.8% EC @ 200 ml or Lambda-cyhalothrin 5% EC @ 160 ml or Lambda-cyhalothrin 10% WP @ 80 gm or Malathion 50% EC @ 740 ml pesticides can be used on these locusts @ 200 liters of water per acre.

Crop’s biggest enemy locust team has knocked In many areas of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. Officials of the Agriculture Department say that such a big attack of locusts has occurred especially in Madhya Pradesh after 27 years. Given this large locust attack, precautionary steps are also being taken by the government.

On this issue, Agriculture Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shri Kamal Patel said that a survey of the losses caused to farmers due to the locust outbreak will be conducted. The survey work will be done by forming a joint team of staff of the Revenue Department and Agriculture Department. In this survey, the farmers who have suffered a significant loss will be compensated under RBC 6 (4). Along with this, Minister Shri Kamal Patel said that the necessary instructions for this from the state level should also be issued soon.
