- The cucumber plant is a shallow-rooted crop and thus it doesn’t require any deep intercultural operations.
- Prune all secondary shoots up to 5 nodes, to improve yield & fruit quality.
- Staking of plants is helpful in checking the rotting of fruits.
Field preparation of Cucumber
- In the initial stage, the field is ploughed 4-5 times to make the land Friable and before the final ploughing, add 10-15 tons of ripe cow dung manure per acre of land.
- If the soil is infested with nematodes & white ants or red ants, apply Carbofuran at the rate of 10 kg/acre.
- After levelling the field, 60 cm wide channels are made at a distance of 2.0- to 2.5 cm.
- The length of the channel depends on the source of irrigation, season, rainfall and slope land.
Farmers can get more production by keeping proper planting in cucumber crop
- Seeds are sown in furrows at a distance of 1.0-1.5 meter between plants.
- When cucumber is trained on bower fallow a spacing of 3*1 m.
- When seeds are sown at a distance of 0.5 to 75 meter with 4-6 seed/hole.
- In hilly areas, allow only two plants to grow in each hole.
