Thrips control in Garlic

Thrips: – These pests are small and yellow, which make white spots on the leaves, it sips juice from the leaves.
Control: –Profenofos 50%EC @ 400 Ml/acre or Fipronil 5% SC @ 400 ml/acre or Emamectin Benzoate @ 80-100 Gm/acre or Spinosed @ 75 Ml/acre should be sprayed along with silicon base solvent to control the insect. Soil application of Fipronil 0.03% GR @ 8 Kg /Acre or Phorate 10% G granules @ 8 kg /Acre is also recommended.

Soil and its preparation in Garlic

Soil and its preparation: – Garlic can be grown on various soils. But sandy loam, silly loam and deep friable soils are best suited for Garlic crop. The land is prepared by giving 5-6 ploughings. The optimum pH range is between 5.8 and 6.5. For maintain pH level apply 50 kg gypsum per ha. (According to soil pH Level). Land should be prepared in such a way that the excessive water can be drained out easily and make weed free. Apply the field with 15-20 tones of Well Composed FYM before last ploughing.

Management of Purple Blotch in Garlic

Initially small, elliptical lesions or spots that often turn purplish-brown which are surrounded by chlorotic margin. If the spots enlarge, chlorotic margin extend above and below the actual lesion. Lesions usually girdle leaves, causing them to fall over. Lesions may also start at the tips of older leaves. For managing the disease effectively, healthy seed should be used. Crop rotation of 2-3 years with non related crops should be followed. Spay fungicides, Mancozeb 75% WP @ 45 gm/15 litre of water or Hexaconazole 5% SC @ 20 ml/15 litre of water or Propiconazole 25% EC @ 15 ml/ 15 litre of water at 10-15 days intervals from 30 days after transplanting or as soon as disease appears.

Root rot control in Garlic

Control: – Remove infected plants quickly, use disease-free Cloves for planting.
Treating garlic cloves with warm water can reduce the infection by 50%. Treated with the solution Mancozeb 75% 2 Gms / litre at the time of planting.. Spray and drainching of the crop per 45 grams per pump from Carbendazim 12% +Mancozeb 60%.

Management of Irrigation in Garlic

Management of Irrigation in Garlic:-

  • The first irrigation should be done after planting. After three days of germination it should be irrigated again.
  • After this, irrigation should be done in 10-15 days. In summer should be irrigated in 5-7 days.
  • When tubers mature, irrigation should be reduced. Overall 15 irrigation needs are required.
  • Moisture should not be reduced in soil during the developing of Bulb, there is adverse effect on the growth of the end tuber.
