Termite identification, damage symptoms and management in wheat
  • The wheat crop can be damaged by termites either after sowing or sometimes at the stage of maturity.

  • Termites often cause damage to crop roots, stems of growing plants, and dead plant tissues.

  • Damaged plants withers completely and are easily uprooted from the ground.

  • If well-decomposed manure is not used, the soil is more susceptible to termite attacks.

  • Deep plough the field before sowing.

  • Use only well-decomposed manure

  • Must treat soil with insecticide Metarhizium Anisopliae

  • Raw dung manure should not be used because raw dung is the staple food of this insect.

  • Fill the termite mound with kerosene so that all other insects along with the termite queen die.

  • Do seed treatment with Chlorpyriphos (20% EC) @ 5 ml / kg seed before sowing.

  • To control termites, use Chlorpyriphos 20% EC @ 1 litre mixed with any fertilizer and broadcast in soil and irrigate it.
