Agriculture Bill passed in Rajya Sabha, farmers get exemption to sell their produce outside the mandis

On 20 September, two agricultural bills were passed in the Rajya Sabha. The first is the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce Bill 2020 and the second is the Farmers Price Assurance Agreement and Agreement on Agricultural Services Bill-2020.

The proposed law would allow farmers to sell their produce outside the mandis. Its goal is to provide remunerative prices to farmers for their produce through competitive alternative trade channels. Under this law, farmers will not be charged for the sale of their produce.

This bill will reduce the expenses incurred in selling their produce to the farmers and will also help them get better prices for the produce. With the help of this bill, farmers of those areas where there is more production will be able to get better prices by selling their agricultural produce in other regions of low production.

Onion price is running at Rs 850 per quintal at Gautampura Mandi in Indore and the tomato price is Rs 925 per quintal at Sendhwa Mandi in Barwani district. The price of cabbage, cauliflower, brinjal, ladyfinger, and the gourd is being sold at Rs 750, 950, 825, 925, 600 per quintal respectively in Sendhwa Mandi.

Talking about the Bhind Mandi in Gwalior, the price of wheat and mustard is running at Rs 1560, 4770 per quintal respectively. Apart from this, the price of Mill quality wheat in the Khaniadhana Mandi of Gwalior is running at Rs 1925 per quintal and the price of moong in Babai Mandi in Bhopal is Rs 4000 per quintal.

What is the importance of zinc in agriculture?

Zinc is needed strongly for the development of plants. It is one of the eighth essential micronutrients. In India, Zinc (Zn) is now considered as the fourth most important yield-limiting nutrient in agricultural crops.
Deficiency in Zinc might result in a significant reduction in crop yields and quality. In fact, yield can be reduced by over 20% before any visual symptoms of the deficiency.
In plants, zinc is a key constituent of many enzymes and protein synthesis.
It plays an important role in a wide range of processes, such as growth hormone production and internode elongation.
It is often deficient in alkaline, rocky soil.
Young leaves of Zinc deficient plants are small with yellow interveinal mottling.
Soil application of Zinc Sulphate @ 20 kg/acre is recommended to reduce the damage.

Mustard sowing and Essential fertilizers

Normally for mustard, the distance of 30-45 cm from row to row and 10-15 cm from plant to plant shall be maintained.

The Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert expressing the possibility of heavy rain

The monsoon is about to reach its final stage in the coming few days. The monsoon has reactivated in many states of the country before reaching its final stage. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in Rajasthan for the next 3 to 4 days from next Friday and a yellow alert has also been issued.

Apart from this, the Indian Meteorological Department has predicted rain and thunderstorms in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Bihar, and Jharkhand in the coming hours. Along with this, there has been a possibility of rain with thunderstorms in Assam, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Meghalaya, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Kutch, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh.
