Weed Management in Cotton Crop

Weed Management in Cotton Crop
  • For weed control by chemicals, before germination (within 72 hours of sowing) mix 700 ml Pendimethalin 38.7% CS or Pendimethalin 30% EC in 200-liter water and spray it in the soil @ one acre.
  • First-hand weeding should be done by running Kolpa or Dora within 25 to 30 days of crop germination.
  • When weeds are 2-3 leaves stage, Pyrithiobac Sodium 6% EC+ Quizalofop ethyl 4% EC 350 ml per 200 liters of water and sprayed on an acre field. There must be moisture in the field.
  • When narrow-leaf weeds appear in the crop, spray Quizalofop ethyl 5% EC @ 400 ml or Propaquizafop 10% EC @ 300 ml per 200 liters of water in an acre field.
  • For broadleaf weed control, spray the Paraquat dichloride on the soil surface at 24% SL @ 500 ml per acre in 200 liters of clean water while protecting the crop by planting a hood at 1.5 feet of the crop. It is a non-selective weedicide.

How to Manage Weed in Moong Crop?

Weed management is a very important activity in moong crop. If not managed properly, it can significantly reduce the production of the yield. These weeds compete for the nutrients, moisture, light, location etc. with the main crop and decrease its growth, yield and quality. The damage caused by weeds is more than the loss due to any other reasons like insects, pests, diseases, disease etc. The most important thing about weed management is to control the weeds at the right time. Weeds could be prevented in the following ways-

preventive method – This method includes all those activities which can prevent the entry of weeds in the field. These activities include the use of approved seeds, use of good rotten dung and compost manure, cleaning of irrigation drains, and proper cleaning of the instruments used for sowing.

Mechanical method – It is a simple and effective method for controlling weeds. It is necessary to keep the crop free from weeds between 15th to 45th day after sowing. Generally, weed management becomes more effective by doing hand weeding twice, first between 15-20 days and then within 30-35 days. However, this method requires more precautions otherwise, the roots of the plant may get damaged significantly. It also demands a lot of time and labour.

Chemical method- Weeds can also be controlled successfully through weedicides. This method saves a lot of time and also reduces the per hectare cost. But awareness is required when using these chemicals. These weeds should be used only after knowing the appropriate quantity of weed, its time, its type, the crop etc. Use 700 ml of weedicide such as pendimethalin (Stomp Extra) by mixing it in 200 litres of clean water for each acre of the farm. It should be used within 72 hours of sowing. In the standing mung bean crop, when the weeds with narrow leaves are in their 2–4th leaf stage, then use 300 ml of Cuzalophope ethyl 5 EC (Taraga Super) or Propagusalophope 10 EC (Agile) with 200 litres of clean water for each acre of the farm.

Weed Management in Gram

  • Weeds affected the yield of a gram by the compete with the plant for nutrient, shade, light, and space and weeds are also attract many insects, pests and diseases and decrease the quality of seeds.

  • Chenopodium album, Melilotus indica, Lathyrus tuberosus, Polygonum aviculare Euphorbia exigua, Sinapis arvensis, etc. are the major weeds of a gram.

  • There are two weddings that should be done in the gram field at 20-25 days after sowing and 50-55 days after sowing.

  • But lack of labor, use pre-emergence herbicide pendimethalin 30 EC @ 2.5 lit./hac. formally in 500-liter water. Then after 20-25 days of sowing may apply first weeding. Then second weeding may apply 50-55 days after sowing.

Weed Management in Corn

  • Apply Atrazine @ 500 g/acre as pre-emergence on 2-4 DAS using Backpack/ Knapsack/ Rocker sprayer fitted with a flat fan nozzle using 200 liters of water/acre followed by one hand weeding on 30-35 DAS. (or)
  • Apply 2,4 D, Dimethyl-Amine Salt 58% SL @ 600ml/acre at 4-6 leaf stage of weed.
  • Apply Tembotrione 42% SC @ 115 ml/acre at 4-6 leaf stage.
  • Apply herbicide when there is sufficient moisture in the soil.
  • Do not disturb the soil after herbicide application.
  • If pulse crop is to be raised as intercrop, do not use Atrazine. Spray Pendimethalin @ 300g/acre as pre-emergence on 3-5 DAS.
