  • The leaves turn yellow at the base and wither and fall.

  • Roots and buds – covered with a fluffy white mycelium

  • The affected bud becomes watery, and the outer layer cracks as the bud dry and shrivels.

  • Eventually, small brown and black sclerotia/fungi develop on the affected parts of the bud or within the tissue.

Control measures 

  • To prevent this, crop rotation should be adopted.

  • The infected plant should be destroyed.

And as a soil treatment around the plants, Dhanustin (Carbendazim 50% WP) @ 15 gm (according to the Directorate of onion and garlic research) or Carmanova (Carbendazim 12% + Mancozeb 63% WP) @ 15 gm (Indian Institute of horticultural research) 30 grams + Maxx-root @ 10 gm/15 litres of water, Drenching or deep spraying near the root zone of the plants so that the water reaches the roots of the plants.
