Management of fruit fly in bitter gourd crop
  • The maggot burrows into the fruits and remains inside and feed. Infected fruits decay and drop.
  • The fly mainly prefers tender fruits for egg-laying. Ovipositional punctures caused by adults’ wounds fruits making the fruit juices ooze out.
  • Grown fruits infested with Fruit fly should be collected and destroyed.
  • Maize plants grown in rows at a distance of 8-10 cm in the field is effective as flies rest on such tall plants.
  • During the summer, deep plowing of the soil helps to destroy hibernated flies.
  • For effective control of pests, use a light trap, Pheromone trap.
  • To control this, spray Fenpropathrin 10% EC @ 400 ml/acre or Profenofos 40% + Cypermethrin 4% EC @ 400 ml/acre or Spinosid 45% SC @ 60 ml/acre.
  • As a biological treatment. Use Bavaria Basiana @ 250 gram/acre
