How to do Seed treatment of cotton seeds before sowing
  • Start seed treatment with 2.5 gm carbendazim 12% + mancozeb 63% WP followed by 5 ml imidacloprid 48% FS and the next treatment with 2 gm PSB bacteria and Trichoderma viride @ 5-10 gm per kg seed.
  • These treatments have protection from fungal diseases and sucking insects along with phosphorus in the available condition which improves root growth.
  • Remember that fungicide should be used first, then insecticide, and finally bio culture.

  • After starting the cultivation process in cotton with deep ploughing, use a harrow 3-4 times so that the soil is friable and water holding capacity increases. By doing this, the harmful insects present in the soil, their eggs, pupa and the spores of fungi are also destroyed.
  • Soil treatment must be done so 4 kg of zinc solubilizing bacteria, 2 kg of Growmax (seaweed, amino acids, humic acid, and mycorrhiza), 2 kg of Trichoderma viride and 100 gm of NPK consortia bacteria in 4 tons FYM per acre mix well at the rate and spread it in the field.

  • Kaveri Jadoo: This variety is tolerant of drought and to sucking insects such as aphid, jassid, whitefly and resistant to pink bollworm, American bollworm. 
  • The crop duration of this hybrid variety is 155-167 days, in which the bolls are medium and the plant is long, so it is also suitable for sowing in less distance.
  • Rasi RCH-659: This is a good hybrid variety for 145-160 days of medium duration and high production.  
  • In this variety, bolls are large numbers and suitable for heavy soil in irrigated areas.
  • Rasi Neo: It is a good variety for the moderately irrigated area and light to medium soil, as well as tolerant of sucking insects such as aphid, jassid, whitefly.
  • Rasi Magna: In this variety, bolls are big size and large numbers, which is good for growing in medium to heavy soil. Sucking insects are moderately tolerant.
  • Kaveri Money Maker: The harvest period is 155-167 days, in which bools are a big size which is well blooming and shiny.
  • Aditya Moksha: This variety is suitable for heavy soil in irrigated and rainfed areas, having a crop duration of 150-160 days.
  • Nuziveedu Bhakti: This variety is tolerant to sucking insects and tolerant to Pink bollworm, American bollworm. Its harvest period is about 140 days.

Whitefly resistant transgenic variety of cotton developed

  • Scientists of National Botanical Research Institute – Lucknow have developed whitefly resistant variety of Cotton. 
  • Researchers identified 250 plants from the plant’s biodiversity to find protein molecules that are toxic to the whitefly.
  • When the whitefly was exposed to the pesticide protein in the laboratory, its life cycle changed adversely.
  • This variety will be tested from April to October in the center under Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.
  • If the anti-white fly qualities are included in cotton, if they are found effective even in tests conducted in the field, then this variety can be given to farmers for cultivation.
